Hotel Yorba

Good afternoon.

My first class starts in 4 hours and 15 minutes. I can't wait.

I awoke this morning from a crazy and silly dream. I feel like writing about it, so here it goes. Basically in my dream, I was narrating this story. Its kinda weird and creepy, but very vivid.

The sun sets behind the hotel, which is the largest and brightest building in the city. I have climbed down from the mountains and just like the sun, the hotel is my last stop for the day. I will not be staying the night, I will be trying to save my people.

I am not known as a rebel, but I believe that is the reason I was selected to complete this mission. I have no formal training, and have never attempted anything like this in my life. My goal is to breach the hotel at the end of town, and climb to the top floor. Once inside, I'll try and locate a group of strange men, hopefully sleeping peacefully. These men are mainly knows as honourable warriors, and they're resting for one final night before they leave at sunrise. I have been informed that these so called honorable men have deceived us, and are carrying a vital piece of information that may involve saving the lives of countless people. I have one goal. Get in and get out as fast as possible. I am told I will receive more information once I reach my target.

My town is small, and the people are friendly. This is the town in which I grew up, and I know it well. I take the long way to the hotel, as if I am trying to delay the inevitable. It is getting late now, almost 1am. My call time is two. I am on time. The only bar in town is getting out, I hear the yelling and laughter three blocks away. I stop. I listen. I must continue.

Brad!

I stop again. Foolish. I have told nobody of my mission, and must keep it that way. I turn to my left and see my old friend. Trying to stay calm, I speak.

Hello.

What are you doing man? Ive been trying to get a hold of you all night?!

Sorry. I have plans. I say trying not to express any of the one hundred emotions running through my unprepared body.

Umm, ok. Did you forget about OUR plans?

No. I did not forget.

Ok, well what are you doing now? He says, trying to resolve the situation.

I am going to the hotel. NO! You idiot! Don't tell him about the hotel! God damn it.

Why are you going to the hotel? I know your apartment sucks, but isn't that a little extreme?

Sorry.. I will explain later.

I have no choice but to keep walking. I tell my friend not to worry. Everything will be alright. By the look in his eye, he does not believe me. I must continue.

I take a new path for the final three blocks, making sure I run into no one. I look up to the top floor of the hotel, all the lights are out. The floor looks at peace. I approach the front lobby, trying not to look like the wreck I am. I have been given instructions to use the 2nd elevator, which is over sized. I am told that I will have a package waiting for me once inside. I approach the hotel, and calmly walk into the lobby, just like anybody else. There are a few people up and about, which is surprising to me. A man on the far sofa reading a book, a couple using a pay phone, and a family with three kids trying to check into a room. I see no sign of the targets, and I walk towards the elevator. I reach out my hand, to press the button. DING. Elevator two arrives down at the lobby without me having to press a thing. A man in a suit walks out. He is tall, wearing sun glasses, and looks like he doesn't belong. His head turns, he looks at me. I freeze. So does he. Although I cannot see his eyes, I know he's staring at me. The man nods and walks away. I take a deep breathe and walk into my calling.

Inside the elevator lies a black suitcase. I walk inside and the door closes softly behind me. I press the hold button as instructed and open the bag. Inside is a note. It reads as follows.

"The disc is your only mission. Use whatever means necessary."

Under the note is a gun, black clothing, two blue pens and a hat. I was told to use all these objects. I put on the black clothes and the hat. I stick one blue pen behind each ear. Why I need two blue pens is beyond me. I rest the gun in my belt, something I have never done.. I am ready. I was told if I was spotted by the targets on the 10th floor that I should act confused and ask how to get to room 808. I'm not so certain this will work. My goal is to break into the rooms until I find the disc. It is unknown how many men will be on the 10th floor, and it's very unlikely they'll appreciate my company. The more I think, the more uncertain I become.

A loud noise startles me, and the elevator starts to rise. I did not press a button. I must remain calm. We pass floor four, five, six, seven... and land on 8. The door opens. I hear giggling and laughing. A group of girls peer into the elevator and begin to laugh harder. I press the close door button. Just as the door is about to close, it opens again.

Are you getting on?

Intense laughter is my response. Again, I press the close door button, and again it reopens just before it closes. Are you serious? I raise my voice to the girls. Finally the door shuts. Since I have not selected a floor, about ten seconds later, the door opens again. This time the girls really started laughing hysterically. I was not. I close the door and press the L to return to the lobby. Its 1:55am and I am not quite ready to go. I get to the lobby, the door opens and three men in suits and name tags walk in. They ask me if I am getting out, I say no. All three look at me, and one presses the 9th floor. We rise one at a time, each floor seems to increase the temperature by the same amount. We get to the ninth, and the three men get out. One goes left, one goes right and the other walks to the room directly in front and knocks on the door in a loud manner.

Hello? Are you awake? Hello? I need everyone to come with me, now!

The man reaches into his pocket and pulls a key to open the door. Just as his opens, mine closes. What was he doing? What is going on? Before I can ask any more questions, the elevator begins to drop again. I am forced to go along for the ride. I arrive back down at the lobby. The door opens and I nearly scream. Four policemen in riot gear are ready to attack. I jump out of the elevator and they run in and take off. I turn around and watch to see what floor they go to. Six, seven, eight.. nine.... ten. My eyes fixate on the ten. Ten. I again call for the elevator. Back down it comes. When it arrives, 7 people in pajamas and other sleeping attire walk briskly out, and towards the exit.

Excuse me sir! Someone yells over in my direction. I must continue with the mission.

SIR! We have a problem and ask the everyone goes outside until the police handle the situation.

The man is jogging towards me, I hesitate, but dart back into the elevator and press it. 10. One last `Sir!` hit me before the doors closed just in time. I start to rise. Everything has come down to this. From inside the elevator I can hear police sirens growing outside. BOOM. An explosion. The lights flicker on and off, and the elevator stops. Screaming. I can hear screaming. I regain myself and press it again. 10. The lift lets out another shake and a loud grinding sound, but it start to rise. I reach for my gun in my belt, but do not pull it out. Seven, eight, nine.... 10. Everything has come to this point. I must act swiftly. Do not panic. Countless lives are at stake. I must comply. The door opens and I see three policemen running down the hall. The sound of gun fire rips through my ears and I fall to my knees. Smoke and more gun fire ripple through the air. Screaming and death can be heard. The worst sounds I could ever imagine. I reach up with my hand, and with my last effort, press the L key. The doors begin to shut. I see a man with a gun, he yells and raises his rifle. He has a look of murder in his eyes. A monster. I shut my eyes. Down on my knees, I can do no more. Stop. Silence. The events of the night replay themselves in fast forward to this point. I open my eyes. Everything is still. I see the man with a gun, aiming at me. I see the door to the elevator, 6 inches away from closing. I see three men on the ground already dead. Most importantly, I see that my mission is not possible. And just like that, God pushes play. A huge noise, the door closes and I fall from my knees to the ground. I take a huge breath of air, as if I had been holding my breath underwater. I feel my chest, to make sure I am not shot. Nothing. I feel the elevator dropping down. I stand just before the doors open to the lobby. Chaos has erupted on a peaceful part of town. Men, women and children are screaming and running for the exits. I do the same. Police look in my direction as I leave the elevator, as if I was the cause of all this. Maybe I was. They`re say something to me, but it can't be made out over the loud happenings around me. I keep running for the exit. I turn my head and see three, now four police running after me. That is when it hits me, and hits hard. My gun. I have a gun. They will never believe my story. They will think I am responsible. I have a new mission. Freedom. I bolt for the lobby door. I look behind me again, they're closing on me. One officer has drawn his gun. I think about pulling mine out, and I know I would not stand a chance versus trained professionals. I body check the door on the way out and the cool air of the night is a great gift to breathe. I continue my sprint to the street. The foot steps and yelling behind me are louder and louder. I close my eyes and run as fast as I can. Twenty feet from the front of the hotel, I am tackled from behind onto the cool pavement. Four cops plus the one on top of me are yelling, swearing and hurting. I let out a heroic cry. I am hit in the head, and I fade to black.
